Story 1:
I, Kathy want to share this story with you all. This is from the newsletter of the Yoga studio I practice at, The Healthy Yoga Las Vegas Southwest. King Rollins, the owner, likes to point out inspiring stories of how yoga has helped various people. I am including the latest "student of the month", Adela Praderas, as she is a testimony to the awesome power of this yoga, and how the body wants to heal itself if it is given a chance. The following is from Adela:
THE HEALTHY YOGA!!! I never thought that I could do it!
I first heard about The Healthy Yoga from my daughter, Daal, who lives in Lakewood, CA. She would tell me how good it was, how wonderful she felt doing 'hot yoga', but it never crossed my mind I would become a 'yogi' myself.
In April 2007 I injured my right knee (don't know how). I had some pain when walking that wouldn't go away. Therefore I visited a physician who X-rayed and examined my knee. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it and advised me to wait and see if the pain would go away by itself. A couple of months passed and as I felt no improvement, I visited the physician again who advised an MRI. The result was: mild arthritis plus a torn meniscus. He prescribed a series of 3 shots in my knee -one shot every week- but I still felt the same pain, no improvement at all.
THEN, in September, Daal came to Las Vegas for a short visit. Why don't you try Bikram, see how it goes? she said. With many doubts I attended my first class at the Tropicana studio. I was afraid I would completely ruin my knee. But contrary to my tribulations everything went well. As a matter of fact, I became addicted to The Healthy Yoga since my very first class. Thanks to the wonderful guidance of my teachers, all of whom were aware of my knee condition and kept watching over me all the time, I have healed extremely well. Now I am able to walk as much as I want, go up and down stairs with ease. And I feel so wonderful lately, very healthy, optimistic, full of energy, rejuvenated and, I am 76 years young.
Thank you THE HEALTHY YOGA, you are WONDERFUL.
That's powerful stuff!!
Health and Wellness,
Story 2:
I, IDEAGUY got to thinking yesterday evening, I have heard so many great yoga and meditation stories over the last few years - it not only seems that yoga is becoming much more popular, it really does look like society is seeing a rather dramatic improvement.
There is the neighbor that struggled through incredible emotional and physical turmoil while carrying her first child - having found yoga and meditation as a technique to lessen her worry and anxiety while increasing her comfort and peace of mind.
Then there are the retired school teachers who live down the street who found yoga and meditation the perfect cure for boredom, aches and pains and periodic bouts of depression.
My wife, an avid runner who now takes solace in the flexibility, relaxation and strength building aspects of yoga.
Several professionals I know deal with their immense pressure and stress by taking a 30-minute yoga or meditation break 3-times each week.
My own case of meditation helping disolve years of digestion problems.
There is no doubt in my mind that yoga and meditation can play a very important role toward a healthier and happier future for all of us.
Story 3:
Many people are rushing to the gym, signing up with trainers, joining yoga studios, adjusting their diets, and other changes are being made, in order to lose weight in this new year. The slimmer waistline, the healthier body, stronger muscles are goals many people strive for. I am happy and honored to say as a Yoga instructor, I have witnessed and participated in some amazing transformations. One student lost over 70lbs since joining Bamboomoves, one student proudly showed off her taut mid section calling it "BODY BY AMBRIA", others have lost a considerable amount of weight as well, found new strength in their core and back muscles, embraced a sexier "bootylicious" gluteus maximus, and all of them have found a healthier/happier mindset. The success stories of my students make me more excited than you could imagine!!! This is because they had a goal, devised a strategic plan of action, and took action. These success stories help me to grow as an instructor, and I am grateful to be part of the process.
While some students refer to my carefully crafted "The Healthy Yoga" class as the "torture" class, or lovingly call me a "Drill Seargent", they keep coming back because they know they enjoy the awesome results of their hard work. I had to take the Shakira song "Latortura" off of the playlist because I didn't want to encourage associating torture with the "The Healthy Yoga class", I prefer the word "challenge". I enjoy challenging their bodies in a safe yet fun way, because I know that the results will be awesome! They know that my voice is loud to drown out the "rocking play list", they know that after the warm up it's more work from their, and they unanimously agree that they feel "OUTSTANDING"!! I know that they feel "outstanding" because periodically through class, I will ask them "How are we feeling?" and unless the response is a unanimous "Outstanding" class may have to get a little sweatier to ensure "outstanding status". There really is no other way to feel in this class. These students (men & women) come into class, and know that they will challenge their bodies, laugh a lot, leave drenched in sweat, leave slightly sore, and sometimes even more sore the next day! Despite the challenge (which is putting it nicely) that the class poses to the entire body, these Boogie Down Bronx peeps keep coming back for more! Recently, it has come to my attention that a devoted "The Healthy Yoga" fan, who has only been coming to Bamboomoves since last September has successfully lost 27lbs!!!! YEAAAAA DEANA!!!!
Deana started taking the incredibly challenging class "The Healthy Yoga" in September of 2010 (just 4 months). She takes "The Healthy Yoga" class religiously twice a week, she takes Carissa's awesome Zumba class, and does 30 minutes of daily cardio on her own. Along with the fitness she has put into her routine, she has also opted for a healthier diet, "cutting out the junk" as she would say it. Clap it up for Deana and her sexy, new, healthy body!!!! Hard work, sweat, and dedication has helped her get closer to her goals! If you are looking for a healthy way to stay fit, if you have goals for your mind-body-spirit, if you wanna try a class that will have you sweating/moaning/working and feeling "OUTSTANDING" all at the same time, come to bamboomoves in the Bronx, if you dare. Today's Snow storm couldn't keep people away, we still had an awesome size class, which is truly dedication!!!
Story 4:
SARA Rue is glad she doesn’t have to worry about losing weight in time for her wedding.
The actress – who hosts the CW’s new reality competition Shedding for the Wedding – famously lost 50 lbs. on the Jenny Craig weight-loss program.
And Rue — who’s preparing to wed teacher Kevin Price in May — says she’s glad she’s already dropped the pounds.
“It’s nice to not have that be a stressful thing,” she told “The Healthy Yoga”
“Planning a wedding can be stressful enough, and I’m glad I don’t have that to worry about.
“I do my maintenance by exercising and watching what I eat, but of course I may want to lose a little bit more just so I look and feel great in my wedding dress.
“On my honeymoon, I want to be able to flounce around in tiny shorts and a bikini top.
“That would be ideal.”
Too often technology is blamed for making us fat and lazy. With so much convenience provided by our smart devices, the amount of time we need to be on our feet or moving around has decreased dramatically. But just because technology makes everything easier is no reason to shun it when it comes to your health. Put the Internet and your devices to work for you and you can reap the benefits of weight loss and better health.
Thanx to “The Healthy Yoga”
